Hanging coffee cup planter
The coffee maker at the office sucks. There is no fixing it no matter the type of coffee or filter. So I usually go for a coffee run at lunch. I'm crazy busy and my break is only 30 minutes, which breaks down to 10 minutes to get to coffee, 10 minutes to drink coffee, 10 minutes to get back to work - this is a daily occurance. So you can imagine, I have quite the collection of coffee cups and it's so hard to bring myself to throw them all out. So I thought it would be fun to make a hanging planter. The cool part is that if you turn the cups upside down, the sippy hole on the lid will water the planter right below it :)
Supplies: paper cups, acrylic white paint, small paint brush, gold spray paint, blue spray paint, gold washi tape, scissors, hemp string or chain from the garden store, exacto knife, mini flowers in a mini planter.
I painted the cups with white acrylic paint to cover the logos, then painted them all blue. I I used the exacto knife to cut out the bottom of the cup. This side will be where you place the flowers.
I painted the lids gold and decided to use some gold washi tape as an accent. Then used the hole puncher to make holes about 1/2 an inch from the top (on both sides of the cup).
Next, I used natural hemp rope to tie the planters together. And, I thought, whet the heck, why not paint the rim of the planters gold too! I found these mini planters and flowers at the garden store and strung the hanging planter from a tree. The birds are like, "what's that all about?!" I love upcycling everyday things like this because it's beautiful and not wasteful.
