Hand Painted Watermelon Slice Wall Art

DIY Hand Painted Watermelon Slice Wall Art

Happy National Watermelon Day! I don't know who thinks up these crazy days but let's roll with it for a minute. When I think of watermelon, I'm reminded of my childhood summers. Every summer my mom would set up that long yellow slip and slid in our front yard, offer to watch all the neighborhood kids, and cut up watermelon for our afternoon snack. So you see, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make a fun watermelon themed project for today.

I really do love hand painting fruit decor because it's pretty easy, and we all know what fruits look like so there is very little instruction needed. If watermelon is not your thing , no problemo, please click here to check out my hand painted strawberry herb planter!

Things you will need:

  • Martha Stewart craft paint in "green curry"
  • Martha Stewart craft paint in "habanero red"
  • Martha Stewart craft paint in "wedding cake white"
  • Martha Stewart craft paint in "beetle black"
  • Martha Stewart craft paint in "pesto green"
  • White 8x10 frame
  • Black and white striped paper from Paper Source
  • Scissors
  • Painter's tape
  • White card stock
  • Small square shaped brush

I took card stock and cut out a triangle about 6 inches on each side. Then using painter's tape I started at the base with a dark green stripe, followed by a lighter green stripe, a white stripe, and I filled the rest in with red. I used a square brush turned sideways to paint the seeds. Finally, I fit the black and white tripe background to the frame and added the watermelon slice.
